If something feels wrong, stop.
Stop the class right away and call 911 (or your local emergency number) if you feel chest pain, pressure or tightness, pain spreading to your arm, neck or jaw, unusual shortness of breath, dizziness or faintness, a racing or irregular heartbeat, or sudden confusion. Do not wait for the class to finish and do not try to push through it.
The short version
híbrido is a fitness app. It is not a medical service, our coaches are not medical professionals, and nothing in the app or on this site is medical advice. Heart-rate numbers are estimates from consumer devices. You decide, every day, whether a class is right for you, and you can always go easier.
01híbrido is not medical advice
híbrido gives general fitness guidance: a daily class, coaching cues, heart-rate zones and goals. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, monitor or prevent any disease or medical condition, and it is not a substitute for advice from a doctor or other qualified health professional.
Nothing in the app, on this site, in a coach's voice, in an exercise explanation or in a post by another member should be read as medical advice, a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Never ignore or delay professional medical advice because of something you saw or heard in híbrido.
híbrido is not a medical device and has not been reviewed or cleared by Health Canada, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or any other regulator.
02Talk to a doctor before you start if any of this applies
Get clearance from a doctor before your first class, and again whenever your health changes, if you:
- have, or have had, a heart condition, a heart attack, heart surgery, a pacemaker or an irregular heartbeat
- have felt chest pain, at rest or during activity, or have lost consciousness or balance because of dizziness
- have high blood pressure, diabetes, a lung condition such as asthma or COPD, or kidney disease
- take medication that affects your heart rate or blood pressure, such as beta-blockers, which also make heart-rate zones unreliable
- are pregnant, may be pregnant or have given birth in the last year
- have a bone, joint, back or muscle problem that activity could make worse, or are recovering from an injury, illness or surgery
- are over 45 and have not been active recently, or have a family history of heart disease at a young age
- have been told by a health professional to limit your physical activity
If you are unsure, ask. A short conversation with a doctor costs much less than an injury.
03Heart-rate numbers are estimates
Your maximum heart rate in híbrido starts as an estimate from your age, and estimates like that can be off by 10 to 20 beats a minute or more for a given person. Your zones, effort targets and embers are all calculated from that estimate or from the number you enter yourself.
Heart rate comes from your Apple Watch or a Bluetooth chest strap. These are consumer devices, not medical equipment: readings can lag, drop out or be wrong, especially with a loose fit, sweat, tattoos, cold skin or fast arm movement.
híbrido does not watch for, detect or warn you about any medical problem, including an abnormal heart rhythm. Do not rely on the app to tell you that something is wrong. How you feel matters more than any number on the screen.
04Go by how you feel, and scale down
Every class offers an easier way to do each part. Use it. Slow the machine, lower the incline, take a lighter weight, step instead of jump, rest longer, or stop. A class done easy, or not done at all, costs you nothing.
Embers, goals, streaks and other members' posts are there to motivate you. They are never a target you must hit. Do not chase a number into pain or past what your body is telling you.
Warm up before hard efforts, drink water, and do not train when you are ill, injured, dehydrated, very tired, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
05Your space and your equipment
You train where we cannot see you. Before each class, make sure:
- you have enough clear space around you, a stable floor and nothing to trip over
- your treadmill, bike or rower is in good working order, and you use the treadmill's safety key or clip
- weights are ones you can control for every rep, and are secure when you set them down
- if you run outside, you stay aware of traffic, terrain, weather and light, and keep your eyes up rather than on your phone
- children and pets are clear of moving equipment
06The class is the same for everyone
Everyone gets the same class each day. It adapts to the equipment you choose and the paces you set, but it is not written for your body, your history or your health, and we do not know any of those.
Some movements are left out of every class on purpose, because they are too risky to learn alone without a coach watching: Olympic lifts (the snatch, the clean and jerk, and their variations), muscle-ups, kipping and butterfly pull-ups, handstand push-ups, ring work, GHD sit-ups and box jumps.
The coaches in híbrido are characters. Their images and voices are generated by computer, and their words are written by our system and checked against a fixed exercise catalog. They cannot see you, hear you or know how you are doing.
07Advice from other members
Members can post how a class felt and comment on each other's posts. Those posts are personal experiences, not advice. Other members are not professionals, and what worked for them may not be safe for you.
Do not give other members medical advice in posts or comments. If you see something unsafe, report it from the post's menu.
08For adults only
híbrido is for adults 18 and over. It is not designed for children or teenagers, and they must not use it.
09Your choice and your risk
Physical exercise carries a risk of injury and, rarely, of serious medical events including heart attack and death. By using híbrido you accept that risk, and you are responsible for deciding whether each class is appropriate for you on each day and for how you do it.
